Shopping Centre Expansion

The new Barossa Mall is now open for business with our Mitre 10 Hardware and Australia Post trading from the location. Our leasing agents Metier are actively negotiating further tenancies with an aspiration to fill the mall by mid year. The finishing touches to the shopping centre will be completed by April 2010.

Gawler St Shops

The strip shops at 7 Gawler St are now fully tenanted. We propose to withdraw from the floor coverings market at the end of January 2010 by relinquishing our Carpet Court franchise. We are delighted that an experienced operator will take over the franchise thereby continuing this service to the Barossa community. The new operator will lease the premises from the Co-operative.

Department Store Site

We have engaged architects to explore the renovation potential of this site given our commitment to the strategic development of Nuriootpa’s town centre. This site currently houses our Department store and Betta Electrical store which are important contributors towards Members’ services.

Summary

We are very carefully managing the co-operative operation given the evidence of a slower economy. Expenses are being very carefully monitored to match the vagaries of sales revenue.

We have committed to new management information systems which will further enhance our best practice philosophy.

We all look forward to a promising future as we manage the significant investment our Board has made in shopping centre improvements for the fast growing Barossa.
